Projects: complex systems optimisations

Scenarios modelling

Cambridge Applied Physics has continued to develop a statistical modelling tool to represent an organization’s capacity to respond to particular types of emergency. The purpose of the software is to determine how to optimize emergency response within a given envelope of budget and resources.

The particular context for the development to date has been the modelling of the UK’s capability for submarine escape and rescue, which CAP has carried out in collaboration with a domain expert (Peter Jeanneret Ltd) on behalf of the Ministry of Defence. The same approach can in principle be applied in many different domains. The oil industry could be one example, where the approach might be used to optimise a company’s response to incidents such as blowouts or refinery accidents.
